The following picture was taken at the 1st Asian Inter-Varsity Debates in December 1994, which saw participation from Universities all over Asia. This pic was taken just before our first formal dinner: dress code was National Dress, and that's why we had all the lady debaters dressed up in their National best. I was close to the teams from Thailand on this occasion, and this picture perhaps best shows the diversity of their cultural, particularly in their dresses. The original intention was that the Thai team wanted to take the picture with me, but Prof. Piya roped in the entire contingent of Asian debaters- and before I discovered what I'd got into, I was surrounded! |

Note: they *asked* for this photo to be taken with me- I really really really had nothing to do with it! None of the Singaporean debaters on that occasion wore the batik shirt, so we wore suits instead. That's Asst. Professor Piyanart Faktorngpan on the rightmost, my very good friend, and also coach for the Prince Chulalongkorn University. Next: the below is a more recent picture, taken during the 4th Asian University Debates, in July 1997. That's me with the speakers from the University of Philippines, the eventual runner ups to the whole tournament. Diane Desierto (whose guest entry you can find in my logbook) is the second person from the left of the picture. The tournament was hosted in Singapore, and was the second international tournament that I was adjudicated in. |

Also from the Asian Inter-varsity circuit in 1997, that's Tarn Mengheva and Professor Piyanart from the Prince Chulalongkorn University in the picture below. We first met in 1994 at the 1st Asians when I was still debating for the University; in the 1997 tournament, Tarn was debating as a final year student, whereas I was an adjudicator with Prof. Piya. |

Lastly, with two friends from the debating fraternity in NTU. This picture was taken during the 4th Asians in 1997 too. That's Roy Puar and Teo Kwee Bin from the School of Accountancy and Business in the picture below. Kwee Bin represented NTU at the World Debates at Princeton in 1995 (if I remember correctly), and emerged as one of the top twenty speakers of that tournament. |
