Days 4 to 7: The next couple of days were so busy that I rarely had very
much time to take pictures. And to begin with, I didn't think it would be a
terrifically good idea to take photographs during a debate that I was
adjudicating...! Even then, here's a selection of the pictures I did take.

The picture on the left is St. Paul's College, where we had our special
tournaments, including the World Masters, the Public-Speaking component of
the tournament, and also the Stand-Up comedy competition. These
tournaments were held on the beautiful open lawn within the college itself-
sort of like an enclosed open-air courtyard. Yes, that's me in the picture. :)

Picture below: one of the World Masters debates in progress in open-air. Most
in the audience were seated on the lawn, with at least a couple simply lying
down on the grass too. Again, it's a little hard to do this sort of thing in
Singapore, since any sort of body contact with the ground (apart from your
feet!) will almost certainly result in a swarm of ants and whatever ground
inhabitants there are invading your person. But seriously, as you can see in
this picture, there are four teams on two sides in a debate in the Worlds
series. It's modeled after the British Parliamentary style of debating, with an
Opening, and Closing Government teams (comprised of two persons a team),
and the Opening and Closing Opposition speakers seated on the right hand
side. There are three adjudicators seated on the far right- adjudication panels
are always odd in number in order to facilitate voting when necessary. The
person speaking right now is the 1st member of the Opening opposition. The
motion for this debate? "That we should club baby seals." :)
A picture of the the Faculty
of Education building,
where we had a great
number of our debates.
This picture was taken after
round eight on the nine
preliminary rounds on the
8th January if I remember
rightly. That's a Scottish
delegate in his kilt on the
left-hand side of the
picture. :)
This picture was taken outside the massive lawn before St. John's college,
sometime on the 8th January too. The picture's a little hard to see in detail,
but that's Sally Tang from the National University of Singapore beside me.
She's a 2nd year law undergraduate, and was in the tournament as a
trainee-adjudicator. And Singaporeans being Singaporeans, we tended to do
things together while we over in Sydney, so this was taken during a bit of free
time we had, where we walked over the campus looking for areas we haven't
seen yet. :)
Below: and this beautiful looking building is St. Andrews' college, where I
stayed at for the most part of the tournament, from the 4th to the 13th. This
college has been in existence since the 1870s and has accommodated
male residents since then. I missed out on the opportunity to take a picture
inside the college though, but the main building of the college (seen in this
picture) is every bit as majestic and awesome as you can imagine, with the
sort of history that only comes when you've had hundreds of years of
tradition. Thick oaken doors, inner courtyards, wall paintings, portraits of its
counselors and residents etc.
